Prospects and Future of Water Tanks

The future of water tank manufacturing in Australia is secured for many decades to come.  The reasoning is that:

• the ever-increasing population in Australia
• statistically proven decreasing rainfall over continental Australia, possibly a side effect of greenhouse emissions
• government policies
• the general realisation that water is a very precious and scarce resource

Not without reasons have multinationals like Nylex and Bluescope Steel invested  millions of dollars in this industry. Such sizable investments are only possible when based on thorough market research. 

Types of Water Tanks

The plastic tank industry did set examples how to promote their water tanks, and the thorough penetration of plastic in the domestic market justified the expense. 

Coated carbon steel (Aquaplate and Zincalum) are still wide spread and possibly may see a revival if plastic is not able to withstand the harsh Australian environment.  But neither tank type is the ultimate solution for long term hygienic and cost-effective water storage.  Stainless Steel has been traditionally considered to be the ideal material to build water tanks but too expensive for everyday use. Interestingly enough,  this conception seem only to prevail in Australia.  Overseas, stainless steel water tanks are firmly entrenched and displaced most inferior water tanks.  Refer to an article in the Courier Mail on the 17/04/06 with the heading, "Planning for a dry future" where specific reference was made to stainless steel water tanks in Taiwan.  In the Philippines, the most common water tank is made of stainless steel. It should be noted that these are countries which are nowhere near as affluent as Australia is.  We believe that based in overseas developments and the sucess of our stainless steel water tanks that the tank of the future is not made of plastic, or coated carbon steel but from clean, pristine stainless steel.
